This is weeks four and five because we had our family vacation during week four and I wanted to write about it a little bit. We didn’t have it in the budget to go anywhere for vacation, so we decided to do a week of Colorado fun. I knew that we would enjoy some treats on this vacation, but I was also very purposeful in planning snacks and meals when I could. We were very active including a 6 mile hike in the mountains, walking through the Denver Museum, and a day in the sun at Waterworld.
I packed a full ice box full of food and snacks for most of these days and we ate out a few times in between. We drank water all day and stayed hydrated. I also enjoyed some pizza, gelato and pancakes during this time. Typically, I would have indulged a lot more than that. I do wish that I would have made a few better choices, but also am glad that I felt more balanced than I have in my past.
Over this past couple of weeks, I have been experiencing a dramatic increase in insomnia, headaches and stomach aches. I finally went to the doctor when I developed a migraine and pretty intense swelling in my legs. Her and I discussed some possible explanations for how I have been feeling and she ordered some labs and a sleep study. We also talked about my diet and she wants me to stop the intermittent fasting for now and add some healthy carbs back into my diet.
We also recently discovered that I have a MTHFR gene mutation. I am still doing research on this and plan on writing more about it next week (if you have experience with this, I would love to hear about it). But I am going to be implementing a new supplement regimen and eliminating gluten and dairy completely. Basically Whole30 but not as strict. I am actually doing a round of Whole30 in September for a reset and I am really looking forward to it. I already know that I feel so much better when I don’t consume gluten or dairy and my daughter is also gluten/dairy free. Another change that I am making is how I workout. The HIIT workouts are too hard on my joints at the moment, so I will be doing low impact cardio and weight lifting.
I will be writing more about the gene mutation and my new supplement regiment in next weeks post. I would love to know if you have any questions that you want me to answer.
