Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, Loves!

Welcome to my new series, where I plan to share highlights from my week, products I’m loving, recent recipes, and general girl talk. Consider it an a la carte – or individual bits and pieces from my week. A little break from my usual content and a chance for us to get to know each other a bit better. I hope it inspires you to try something new, spend time with your family, or maybe even do a little shopping. So, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s get started.

the chicks

File under things that make me ridiculously happy – our new chicks. I feel like this is truly the start of our country life in Texas, and it’s been such a fun experience to share with the kids, especially Abigail. To prepare, she and I spent months watching YouTube videos and reading up on how to raise chickens. Abby played twenty questions with the man at the tractor supply store to learn all she could, and even wrote an essay about how much she loves the chickens for a recent homeschool assignment. So, it’s turning out to be more of a bonding experience than I ever imagined, which is so sweet.

We have six chickens – Chickpea, Delilah, Guinevere, Marmalade, Henrietta, and Chicky. Three are Easter Eggers, and three are Road Island Reds. They are growing so quickly and their feathers are starting to come in. We think one may be a rooster, but we hope not. Only time will tell. Right now, they are staying in a brooder in our house, but as the weather warms up, we will be moving them to a coop in the yard.

More to come on this, including our routines and transitioning them to life outside. Comment any chicken questions or tips you have for me below!

currently watching

I love it when people share show recommendations because it feels like we are always looking for a new one. Most recently, we have been watching HGTV’s Rock the Block – team Mike and Egypt all the way! It’s an easy-to-watch, family show that Abby and I enjoy when the two boys are down for bed. I also just finished Pieces of Her on Netflix and loved it.

My Texas kitchen is white with dark, blue tile. I really love the contrast of white in front of the blue tile, so I’ve been switching over to white appliances a little at a time. This classic knife set and cute toaster are a few recent purchases I have been loving.

I also grabbed this insanely cool mug from Anthropologie and I am obsessed!

plant mom

Our old apartment in Colorado wasn’t the best environment for plants. But, our new home in Texas has tons of natural light, so I have started buying plants for the house. And well, I can’t stop. Every time, I head into town for errands I end up bringing home a new plant baby. My husband makes fun of me, but I am happy to report that none have died yet, they are thriving, and I am learning a lot. As for my outdoor plants, that’s another story lol. So send me all your outdoor Texas gardening tips below!

I got my hair done! Now if only I could curl it like this at home

cocktail hour

ICYMI – I posted a four-ingredient margarita recipe that my husband has been making us for years. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. If you’re looking for some weekend inspiration, I think it would pair well with Gluten-Free Air Fryer Chicken Taquitos or Instant Pot Shredded Mexican Beef. I am so ready for summer nights and meals out on the back patio.

If you are looking for a non-alcoholic drink, this Paleo Blueberry Lime Mocktail is a fun and delicious option that the whole family will love.

Back on IG

I took a little break from Instagram, but I’m back! Follow me on IG for recipe videos, shopping hauls, and behind-the-scenes of our life in Texas.

As always, thank you so much for being here. You mean so much to me as a reader, and I hope you enjoy my new series.

With love,

Sara

I watched Pieces Of Her recently and loved it, too! Also love Virgin River – waiting impatiently for the new season.
